Breve historia: la artista tiene web sin documentar, por supuesto Facebook, parece ser que se licenció en 2006 y no le gusta Miquel Barceló. ¿Recuerdan el caso de tener que comprar un regalo, que el susodicho lo tenga todo y acabar por gastar el dinero en una bobada, cualquier broma, para cubrir el paripé con unas risas? De esto se trata, me temo.

This is it, I fear.

No cabe duda: muchas referencias y altamente críptico -no es tóxico, pero no se pilla. Yo me quedo con Slavoj Žižek.

Supposedly, this is a reflection on «ideology as a unifying element». Buaff! I can throw one and three thousand stones waiting to see who is nice and clever enough to tell me what the gross sentence plainly means. No doubt, full of references and highly cryptic –this is not toxic by default, but rather evasive to catch the sense of it all. I’ll stick with Slavoj Žižek.

Lo mejor de la muestra es el cuadro “Blues and black” de José Guerrero. Los del MUICO podrían trabajar un poco más las exposiciones. ¿No es excesivamente fácil el tópico franquismo y libertad? Un directivo dice textualmente las siguientes mamarrachadas: «cuando salga profundice sobre ellos», «los cuadros permiten comprender la complejidad». ¿Qué hacer? ¿Agradecer los consejos? No pasa nada; el país sigue en pie aunque no sea ICO quien lo levante cada día. A golpe de créditos, fundaciones y exposiciones más bien tirando a pobres se soluciona poco el tema, la verdad.

The very best of the exhibition is the painting «Blues and Black» by José Guerrero. It seems to me that those from MUICO could work a little more. Isn’t it too easy the topic about Franco versus freedom? One of the managers there literally says the following barbaric mess: «when you leave, deepen over them», «pictures help to understand complexity». What to do? Do we thank such wisdom and top advice? Nothing happens, the country remains alive but in tatters, although ICO is not responsible to raise it every day. A stroke of credits, foundations and rather poor exhibitions shooting sort very little.

Esta exposición es altamente sorprendente y cautivadora: ejercicio de simulación, montaje paralelo. Harun Farocki interpreta la terapia puesta en marcha por el ejército de EEUU con militares traumatizados. Se trata de repetir la experiencia con video juegos y simulaciones para apaciguar la memoria. Es un cruce bestial entre el juego, la ficción y la realidad. Parece ser que según algunos terapeutas y psiquiatras, se puede borrar la memoria la huella de una memoria demoledora volviendo sobre ella. El eterno retorno: conflicto y violencia se perpetúan.

This exhibition is highly surprising and captivating: simulation exercises, parallel editing. Harun Farocki approaches the therapy launched by the U.S. army for those soldiers with trauma. This is basically about repeating the experience with video games and simulations to appease memory. It is a phenomenal cross between games, fiction and reality. Memory’s footprint can be erased going back to the devastating object of remorse according to some therapists. There you go: the eternal return and meanwhile conflict and violence go on.

La muestra me parece desigual. De todos modos, destacan sin lugar a dudas las fotografías de Julia Fullerton-Batten. El cartel con “Deep end” me parece inquietante y muy bien conseguido. Por cierto, coincide con “Heroínas”, donde se exhiben otras fotografías suyas. Para los interesados, en su web hay una entrevista donde explica su serie sobre la adolescencia, terapia y revisión de su pasado.

The sample for this show seems irregular. Anyway, there is no doubt that the photographs by Julia Fullerton-Batten are the darling and big highlight. The sign with «Deep End» is terribly disturbing, what an effect. By the way, this coincides with «Heroines«, which displays other photographs from the same artist. For those interested, on her website there is an interview where the artist explains her series on adolescence, womanhood, therapy and the review of your own past.

El título de la exposición quizás peca de petulante, pero como se trata de uno de los máximos exponentes del arte cinético… El colorido recompone las energías, pero justo cuando deja por fin de ser estático y plano y empezaba a divisar figuras dentro las luces, me marea tanta óptica. Resulta un poco excesivamente epiléptico.

The exhibition’s title is perhaps openly arrogant, but as this is about one of the best examples of kinetic art… The colourfulness generates energy, but just when it stops being static and flat and I begin to make out shapes in the lights, so many optic effects make me dizzy. It’s a bit too epileptic.

Homenaje con cierto toque irónico a amigos, mentores, sabios consejeros y preceptores. Sin duda, me parece interesante como propuesta artística, pero el resultado llevado a la práctica no tanto, la verdad sea dicha. Aunque se debería celebrar que al menos alguien considera tener un mentor… Tenemos gurús para todo y hasta personas ineptas que se dejan llamar sabios. Pero nada similar a Mentor. Debería releer la Odisea y reencontrar ese bello personaje, fiel amigo de Ulises.

This is a tribute to friends, mentors, wise advisors and tutors with an ironic touch. I definitely find it interesting as artistic proposal, but not so much for the result, let’s be honest. Nevertheless, we should celebrate that at least someone thinks to have a mentor… We now find gurus for everything and even inept people allow themselves to be called wise. But still, there is nothing like Mentor. I should reread the Odyssey and rediscover this beautiful character, a loyal friend.

Confieso que a priori el tema me queda lejano… pero la muestra no me aburre soberanamente, al contrario. En principio, la juventud como cualidad omnipotente me resulta cansina y el aburrimiento me enfurece. Es cierto que para vivir plenamente, uno debe aprender a aburrirse y no esperar distracción permanente. No obstante, hay tanto a nuestro alrededor que uno se aburre sólo si verdaderamente se lo ha propuesto de manera un tanto arbitraria.

I must confess that at first hand the subject is distant to me… but I am not supremely bored by the show, on the contrary. In principle, I find tiresome the youthfulness displayed as an omnipotent quality and boredom makes me angry. It is true that to be able to live fully, one must learn to be bored and not wait for permanent distraction. However, there is so much around us to be bored… One is only bored if it’s taken as an absolute predisposition and a unique objective in life. Quite frankly, to be bored, one must be a fool!

Se trata de una propuesta abiertamente divertida, atrevida e irreverente. El planteamiento de cuestionarse fronteras de manera lúdica y sin quitarle rigor me parece un lujo. Y todavía más con el panorama desolador actual… En numerosas ocasiones, paseando por galerías y museos, tienta pensar: “esta mierda la hago yo en tres segundos”. No creo que sea un ejercicio de desvalorización narcisista, más bien una simple anécdota ante algo impuesto como arte, otro prejuicio más. Pues allá vamos: garabatos de cuando el artista era un niño, arte quizás amateur pero cargado de una fuerza visual y conceptual bestial. ¡Olé!

This is about an openly fun, daring and irreverent proposal. The approach of questioning boundaries in a playful way and with taking rigor seems a luxury. And even more with the current bleak picture… On numerous occasions, dropping by galleries and museums, it’s tempting to think: «I could do this same shit in three seconds». I don’t think that it’s an narcissistic devaluating exercise, but a simple reaction when confronted with something imposed as art, yet another prejudice. So here we go: scribbles from when the artist was a child, perhaps amateur art but full of phenomenal visual and conceptual strength. Well done my trusted colleagues!

De todo lo que veo en esta muestra, resaltan las fotografías de espacios de Michael Wesely y Lina Kim. En esta imagen en particular, destaca por encima de todo esa tienda de campaña a salvo del viento y de la lluvia, con vistas panorámicas, rústico en medio del cemento ultrasónico a lo Corbusier, la ropa limpia tendida, etc. Una vivienda humilde, sencilla y tan digna del que quizás debe ser el guardián del edificio inhabitado a no ser por él.

From what I see, the big highlights are the photographs by Michael Wesely and Lina Kim. In this image in particular, the tent stands out above all, kept from wind and rain, with panoramic views, rustic in the middle of ultrasonic cement à la Corbusier, clean clothes hanging to dry, etc. It seems to be a humble, simple and so dignified home for the perhaps guardian of this inhabited building.
